September’s rolled in and summer has basically come and gone. School is starting and stores are starting to break out the fall jackets. I’ve been in Montreal for the weekend so I’m definitely wrapped up in a sweater sipping some tea in Starbucks because the chill is real here… but digress. Let’s get to the lessons shall we?
1. You are stronger than you think.
Life isn’t easy, and sometimes it can feel like an emotional roller coaster. Its hard balancing family and friends, building a career, working on personal growth, and trying stay sane along the way. We’re meant to experience the hills just as intensely as we’re meant to experience the valleys. Please remember that you have overcome every bad day that you have ever faced. Whatever you’re going through now… you’ve got this.
2. You can’t move forward without looking back.
There’s no way to learn from our mistakes if we don’t sit down and process what went wrong in the first place. I have a horrible habit of suppressing my emotions, for a million reasons that I still have yet to figure out, but I’m working on it bit by bit. If we don’t learn from the past, we will continue to make the same mistakes even as we move forward. We have to ask ourselves the hard questions: How have you grown? What are some things that you’re proud to say you accomplished? What have you struggled with? What are you going to do about it? The challenges that you have overcome and the things in your past have shaped who you are. Use them to push you into a better future.
3. At the end of the day, you have to leave the past in the past.
When we look back it can be tempting to open up old doors that we’ve closed. But processing the things that we’ve been through doesn’t mean that we have to put ourselves through the mess again. For better or for worse, for good or for bad, the past has to stay where it is. Acknowledge it for what it was and then keep it moving. You’ll be glad that you did.
