Well hello again loves! Are you ready for another chat? Once again we’ve reached the end of another month. Not only that, but summer is coming to an end very soon. Where has the year gone?! Pour yourself a cup of tea, put your feet up, and get comfy. Let’s talk about the lessons from the last few weeks…
1. Chasing your dreams takes commitment.
I feel like I’ve been busting my butt this summer juggling so many things on my plate. I’ve been working full-time at my summer job, babysitting, studying for my professional license, and training for next year’s marathon. On top of that I’ve been trying to build my photography business, Mahogany Truth, sending out what seems like a million applications for permanent full-time positions in NYC, and trying to navigate my new role as a freelance writer (more on that later!). Oh yeah, and I’ve been trying to make time to breathe too. Sometimes I forget that’s important.
Yes there are nights, when I don’t want to do anything but sprawl out on my couch. Yes, there mornings that I don’t want to get out of bed and go to work. Yes, there are times when I wonder what turning in yet another application is going to do for me. There are many things in life that we can’t control, but what we can do is put our best foot forward and keep trying. Maybe we won’t accomplish everything that we’ve been dreaming of, but why shoot for anything less than the stars? You have to work for your dreams. If you’re not willing to put in the blood, sweat, and tears, then how badly do you really want it?
2. Don’t be afraid to break away from the schedule.
I’m all about my Passion Planner. I know I’m a nerd, but color-coding and sticky notes get me excited. Once I write down in my planner that I’m going to do something, I don’t like changing my plans. But some of the best things I’ve done this month and this summer have happened because I decided to put the planner aside and be spontaneous. You never know what adventures are waiting for you. Those are the beautiful memories that will last a lifetime.
3. Appreciate every season, because seasons change.
Ever since I was four years old, September for me meant back-to-school shopping and new classes. This year will be the first September in over twenty years that I won’t be packing a bookbag with empty notebooks and freshly sharpened pencils. I’m no longer a traditional student and I’m still not even sure what that my life will look like without homework, but I imagine it will feel pretty good. Whether its school, your relationship status, or anything else, we have to remember that things won’t always stay the way that they are. Change is the only constant thing in life. Everything that is happening in your life right now – the good, the not-so-great, and everything in between – will only last for a season. Don’t try to rush through this season because you may miss it once it’s gone.
What have you been up to this summer? Any life lessons or fun adventures you want to share? If so please, drop me a note and let me know!
Love and light,
Felecia Shanice ❤
